The continuous decline of  mangroves in the Philippines are evidence of over exploitation of coastal dwellers and conversion to aquaculture ponds and other agricultural activities. Shocking Sinkhole

People in Guatemala City, Guatemala are still in shock after a giant sinkhole opened up last Sunday May 30, 2010. The 20-meter (about 66 feet) diameter sinkhole is about 30 meters (about 100 feet) deep.

The sinkhole's destruction added to the tragic events in Central America are said to be related to Tropical Storm Agatha. (ref: CNN)

The Alaotra Grebe

The Alaotra Grebe (Tachybaptus rufolavatus)  or known as Madagascan bird has been confirmed extinct. According to Birdlife International the bird was last seen in September 1985. Read the full story at BBC Earth News : Alaotra grebe confirmed extinct
